As a freelance photographer I shoot corporate and private events, real-estate assignments, and editorial assignments for newspapers and magazines including the New York Times, the New York Sun and the New York Post.

My approach to weddings and other events is a modified photojournalistic style. I use available light and minimal flash in order to capture authentic candid shots that artfully convey the spirit and emotion of the day. Candids should not be confused with casual snapshots; my priority is always to take flattering, professional quality shots that capture the moments most important to my client. Often that means taking a more active role than that of a purely documentary/journalistic photographer. When appropriate, I actively work with subjects at events to get the best photographs possible. Sometimes this means gathering your guests for a group shot, or simply asking for a smile. When weddings or events include portrait sessions I bring additional lighting and set up a portable portrait studio.

I work with all-digital equipment and offer two simultaneous customer deliverables: a web gallery that allows photos to be shared with friends and family, and high-resolution JPG files (on CD or DVD) that are ready for printing. My standard approach is to provide digital files, instead of prints, in an effort to keep my services budget-friendly for my clients. However, I am happy to consider special requests; please contact me and we can discuss your needs. For more information about costs please see my Pricing page.

I have been living, working, and falling in love with New York City since 1996. My interest in photography initially developed around my love of urban history and exploration of the city's infrastructure -- its historic, abandoned, and often inaccessible sites. Much of my personal photography is oriented around capturing the experience of my journeys through the city's unseen layers. You can see some of my personal work, including a selection of fine-art prints available for purchase, at www.undercity.org.
